Cathy

Cathy is an accomplished dancer, teacher, choreographer, and judge specializing in Modern, Contemporary, Acrobatics, Jazz, and Ballet. With qualifications to train both professionals and teachers, Cathy has dedicated her life to the art of dance.

Born in Durban, South Africa, Cathy began her training at the age of six, mastering a variety of styles, including Modern Dance, Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Funk, and Spanish Dance. Her early career highlights include performing with the Flying Fish Ballet and Contemporary Company and accompanying an Australian dance company to Hiroshima, Japan, at just 19 years old.

At 21, Cathy joined the prestigious Sun City Dance Company, performing in the Sun City Extravaganza Theatre and other Sun International venues across South Africa. Her career expanded internationally, with performances on MSC and Costa/Carnival Cruise-liners, and in theatres such as the Natal Playhouse and Hillcrest Heritage Theatre.

Cathy has shared stages with global icons like Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Salman Khan, and Paul and Anya Phillapart. She has also appeared in Bollywood films and television advertisements. Beyond performance, she has choreographed and judged competitions, with her students achieving notable successes, including World Lyrical Champions in 2017 and accolades in the 2019 World Lyrical Finals in the UK.

In 2006, Cathy founded SWISH Studios in Sun City, offering children a creative outlet through dance. Relocating to Ballito, KZN, in 2011, she rebuilt SWISH Studios from scratch, growing it by over 500% in 14 years and offering classes in various dance disciplines.

Cathy is also the co-owner of One-Step-Productions, where she produces, directs, and choreographs theatre productions featuring dancers, singers, and musicians.

Now based in the UK, Cathy looks forward to being part of the Funstar team imparting her extensive knowledge and experience to a new generation of students while continuing her own growth through collaboration with leading UK dance instructors.
